Replacing McQuay International Heat Pumps

McQuay International

About McQuay Vertical Stack Water Source Heat Pumps

McQuay International is one of North America’s oldest manufacturers of high-rise vertical stack heat pumps. McQuay International was purchased by Daikin in 2006 with their branding changing to Daikin Applied over time. Most of their heat pumps that are due for replacement in Toronto and the surrounding area are branded McQuay International.

The most common McQuay heat pumps found in Toronto are the HC140 (1 Ton) and HC200 (1.5 Ton) units. Due to their heating and cooling capacity, it’s typical to have multiple McQuay heat pumps in a single suite. McQuay heat pumps are generally found in buildings that are 20-30 years old. Due to their age, they are prone to failure with many of them having been previously repaired.

A unique feature of the McQuay heat pump is the access panel and unit-mounted temperature controls. The rudimentary controls are typically mounted to the face of the unit (in the cut out of the access panel) and allow you to increase heating or cooling on a dial with no specific temperature control. Some owners have upgraded their controls to modern thermostats over time while some owners have opted to stick with the original controls.

Replace McQuay International Heat Pumps with Unilux RHP

Unilux RHP manufactures a replacement solution designed to completely replace McQuay International HC series vertical stack heat pumps.

The process starts by removing the existing equipment from the cabinet. Unilux RHP removes the old McQuay chassis, controls and blower/motor assembly. Next, the new blower/motor assembly and controls are mounted inside the cabinet. Finally, the new chassis is slid into place, connected and fully commissioned.

The Unilux RHP solution has a matching elevated coil mounted on top of the compressor box – exactly like the McQuay – to make installation a breeze.
